This month, we check Pinterest for some great DIY projects for framing and “Around the House” decor.
Doing big projects yourself can save you and your family hundreds of dollars — particularly when it comes to home renovations and making your decor stand out. It doesn’t have to be expensive to look expensive, and really, that’s what crafting your own projects is all about. In this blog, we’ll show you some great ways to make an ordinary frame into something far more extraordinary. You can find these ideas and more by visiting our Pinterest page!
Use a picture frame shell to hang your keys
If Pinterest has taught us anything, it’s that frames aren’t just for framing pictures! Take this example, where a crafty DIY-er screwed some basic wall hooks into the interior of their frame. Search around online and you’ll find plenty of uses for frames besides hanging art: chalkboards, mirrors, hangers and more have been crafted from any standard frame.
Give your frames a new look with dipped corners
Need to spice up a frame, or add a better focal point for your image? Try (carefully) dipping the four corners of your frame into a can of paint! The result takes on the appearance of what is shown above. The tricky part is knowing how far to dip, but a good rule is to measure about 1-2 inches on each side, mark it with a pencil, and then proceed to dip. This is great for matching more than one color in a room, or spicing up your simple black picture frames you may have around the house.
Spray-paint an ornate frame for a more simple, subdued elegant picture frame
While the burlap letter art within the frames are great, we’re more impressed by the paint job on the frames themselves. Some ornate, some simple–a decent spray paint job can entirely changle the look of a frame for the better. While we take pride in our premium wooden frames, we could definitely see series like the victorian and napoleon working very well in the style shown above.
As always, don’t be afraid to think outside the box (or frame)!
Framing is oftentimes most interesting when there is an experimental element added on. Take the image above for example: the separation of the branch is unified throughout the three frames. The aesthetic of the piece is phenomenal, and the crafter only used three frame shells and a branch!

For art, wall decor, humor posters and more, you won’t find a better selection for the price!
Posters and wall art have always been an important part of what we do at Frame USA, Inc. With framing being our primary expertise, we also know what looks good inside of those frames. From fine art and pop culture to “Spencer’s-style” humor, we keep a wide variety of imagery available to customers who want a one stop shop for wall art.
Some of our best sellers fall under the Education and Humor sections. Our specialty with posters includes our wholesale ordering, where you can buy a rack of posters and we’ll simply refill your order any time at a great rate! You can also find our hottest posters over on Amazon or eBay with options to frame or mount them on wood.

Pictured below: The US Constitution. This is one of the most important documents to display for any history teacher, and it looks great as a 24×36 poster.
We’re not just about college humor and whimsy, however. Posterservice has always been at the top when it comes to pop culture and the biggest trends in entertainment. We’ve also launched a great campaign to find more art that our customers enjoy, still sticking to our roots with surrealness and progressive themes. Particularly relevant lately is our new HR Giger poster, featuring Giger’s own artwork for the Alien movie. (Ironically, we published this only days prior to his passing. A sad time indeed for those growing up loving his art and contributions to sci-fi!)

Choosing office decor may not be as simple as you think – interior decorating says volumes about your business.
For those with a business that sees plenty of through-traffic such as hotels, restaurants, marketing firms, cafes or studios: art and interior design are a major selling point of what your business entails.
Let’s start with the hotel example. Think of a time where you have stayed in a nice resort, or maybe a refreshing getaway where the artwork matched the theme of the surrounding environments. Of course, the focus of any average getaway hotel is ambience and design over the importance of displayed content, but the chosen wall decor of your business will undoubtedly be noticed at some point by your guests and clientele.
So what sorts of wall art would fit your company the most? Consider your target audience, and who will be viewing this art the most (aside from yourself, of course!) If you specialize in design or architecture, perhaps displaying blueprints and sketches would be a great way to capitalize on your wall space. For restaurants, photos of famous/local celebrities eating at your establishment make interesting conversation pieces. Other ideas include photos of the owner, the establishment during construction, group photos of your staff and visually interesting products that your business sells.
If your line of business doesn’t work with much imagery (and chances are, it does to some extent) you can always find related imagery to frame and display. For instance, if you are a dog groomer, you could post a fun bulletin board with pictures of various dogs you’ve groomed over the year. You could also post artistic images of barber salons, dog photography, or imagery that fits your brand. You don’t have to limit yourself to subject matter so long as the imagery supports the branding of your business in some way.
In closing, the decor of your business space is meant not only to demonstrate what your business is all about, but to help convert more sales. The customer or client is already in your office, so you don’t need to go to great lengths to impress them. Let your wall art and branding encourage them to trust you with their business.

Artist Evelyn Henson Gives Readers a Quick Framing 101
Choosing the right frame for your business can be a lot of hard work. Having the right frame for the job takes both intuition and some pretty basic knowledge of what makes a good complete work of framed art.
This weekend, we discovered an article written by Evelyn Henson that went into some good details about what to buy, where to buy and what kinds of frames go best in any given situation. Join us while we summarize this article (while also adding our own advice as framers!)
One of the highlights we spotted was to be sure that you’re personally in love with the frame. Before you even think about the artwork, think about how you’ll feel months and even years down the line with that frame on your wall. Once you’ve found a few that fit that criteria, you’ll want to try and see what matches best with your particular artwork. You can also work backwards if you’ve found a great frame, but have no art. Websites like Posterservice.com offer a wide variety of art prints that are more than reasonably priced.
Another question the artist posed was the source of frame material. Knowing whether you’re looking for wood, metal or plastic will save you time and money in the long run. As a general rule:
Plastic frames are best used for posters or a more thin printed material.
Wood frames are usually some of the best in the market. While Henson was of the opinion that white is the best color, this can be problematic if the frame has defective joins or scratches. We prefer black picture frames, and based on the thousands of orders we see for them, we have to agree with the majority! Black is a very standard, very impressive color for most artwork.
Metal picture frames typically go well with modern art pieces and minimalist concepts.
We hope this little tidbit of information has helped you with your framing purchase. Have a great day, and let us know in the comments what your favorite type of frames are!
Our third tip to creating a custom gallery wall is SPACE. When you are planning your arrangements, make sure you allot for space in between the frames. Having enough space between each frame is crucial when it comes to creating a picture collage wall that is intriguing. Now, the amount of space given is generally personal preference. In our experience, we generally recommend leaving about two inches between the outer edges of frames. This gives enough space to allow each individual picture to stand out on its own and still be a crucial part of the collage. Less space can be utilized when the frames that you are using are either the same size or the same shape. If you’re using the paper method to lay out an arrangement, make sure that the space you decide upon still works once you have selected your frames.
Once you have your arrangement planned out and the frames you’re going to be using, the next step is to decide which pictures should be placed in which frames. A successful gallery wall may have a variety of different images, however, in order to provide a cohesive look, we recommend GROUPING BY THEME. What we mean by this is look at the pieces you want to display, group them together on your wall based on the subject. Even if you’ve chosen a variety of different mediums, i.e. photographs and paintings, the groups that you create will tie together an arrangement
When you’ve decided to do a picture collage wall but don’t exactly know all of the pictures that you are going to use, our tip is to STAY CENTERED. Once you’ve gotten the arrangement that you want, start by hanging the picture that will go in the middle of the collage then work your way out. Every stable house starts with a basic framework; a successful picture collage is no different. Once that central picture is in place on the wall you can always come back and add around it once you’ve found pieces you want to hang.
Now that you are equipped with the tools and tricks that we’ve gathered along the years, go and make your space picture perfect. Don’t forget to take pictures of your collage walls and share them with us! We love to see how our customers utilize our frames!
Do you want your family’s pictures to not only remind you of great memories but also be a statement piece in your living room? Do you want to make your house guests feel as though they’ve entered a gallery when they walk through your door? If you want all of the above but are not quite sure how to achieve it, than this is the article for you to read. We’re here to give you tips and tricks on how to keep your wall from starting like this:
And having it end up like this:
There is a lot of anxiety when it comes to hanging picture frames. Placing a nail into your wall is extremely final and if you arbitrarily place one without properly planning where the best place to put the picture is then you’re bound to make the room off balance. That’s why our first tip when it comes to hanging frames, whether it’s a single frame or ten frames, is PLAN AHEAD. We have a trick that is guaranteed to make you think “huh! Why didn’t I think of that?” When you’re deciding on what arrangement of frames you like best, instead of just winging it, use pieces of paper cut to the size of a variety of different frames and tape them to your wall. Here at Frame USA, our sizes start as small as 4×6 and go as large as 27×41 depending on the molding. This is an easy way to find that arrangement you love without damaging your walls permanently. If you already have purchased the frames, you can lay out arrangements on your floor and take pictures of the ones you like best, that way you have a written plan of where each frame is going to go.
With planning ahead in mind our second tip to creating a dynamic wall of pictures is MIX AND MATCH. When you are deciding on which frames you will choose for your space, don’t be stuck on getting all of the same size, step out of that frame (literally). The key to creating a unique picture collage wall is using a variety of frame shapes and sizes that work together to create a cohesive look. Frame USA offers a variety of moldings that are similar but still have a unique edge to them. Don’t be afraid to mix and match molding styles as well. If you’re nervous about that feel free to call and ask for suggestions on which styles pair nicely together. All of our frames have the ability to hang horizontally, or vertically—use this to your advantage, create an arrangement that utilizes both horizontal frames as well as vertical frames.
Large picture frames can be a wonderful addition to your gallery wall if you have the space. Our tip for you is to WATCH THE SPOTLIGHT. When you’re set out to create the gallery wall of your dreams, you don’t want to create one that has one or two images that draw attention the most. Large picture frames tend to hog the spotlight. Our trick when deciding on the size of picture frames is to exclude frames that take up more than a sixth of the available wall space. A successful gallery wall has unique images that act alone but stand together.
