The Most Popular Poster Frame Sizes
The Most Popular Poster Frame Sizes

We are often asked what our most popular poster frame sizes are:

  • 11 x 17 Poster Frame – Perfect poster size frame for framing a poster in a child’s room, your office at work or other small areas such as a den, livable attic or other similar spaces.
  • 18 x 24 Poster Frame – This is the quintessential frame size for hanging advertisements in a lobby or venue, or just about any metropolitan area where people can see the image and read the words without having to be directly in front of the poster.
  • 24 x 36 Poster Frame – This is the most common poster frame size (average poster size) and generally the size that standard posters are made. This is the ideal size for concert and novelty posters to hang around your room or house.
  • 27 x 40 Poster Frame – This is the standard movie poster frame size for typical movie posters (occasionally you’ll find them sized 27 x 41) making it perfect for officially licensed movie posters.

In case you were wondering, all frames can be used to frame posters no matter the type or style. Just remember when your choosing picture frame sizes best suited for your needs, always (and I can’t stress that enough) measure your image first. Our frame sizes are based on inside dimensions, meaning if you have an image that is 8 x 10 and you do not intend on using the mat, you would want to order an 8 x 10 frame. Now if you have an 8 x 10 image and do want to include the mat in the framing process, you have to order a larger frame size to accommodate this.

The Most Popular Types of Photography, Part 2

Photography, the art, process, or job of taking pictures with a camera, has gained massive popularity due to the abundance of easily accessible and affordable cameras.

A few weeks ago we made a post dedicated to the most popular types of photography.

  1. Landscape Photography captures large regions of space and nature meant to display the size and look of the environment.
  2. Wedding Photography (just as the name suggests) focuses on the activities relating to weddings; photographs of the couple before marriage, the wedding and the reception.
  3. Black & White Photography features images in black, white and assorted shades of gray.
  4. Macro Photography portrays smalls subjects in extreme closeups making the image in the photo larger than its actual size.
  5. Portrait Photography is intended to capture the personality, mood and expression of a person or group of people.

We covered these five types of photography but we left a few off; Photojournalism, Wildlife and Fashion Photography.

Photojournalism documents an event or story as it is unfolding by using images to tell a news story. Some things to note when doing photojournalism:

  • Make sure you have the correct context – Photojournalism is catered towards making sure that people can see what’s happening and correctly understand what you’re trying to convey with your image. People like seeing photos of other people because that helps to humanize stories.
  • Figure out how to convey the emotion of the moment – Capturing people’s expressions, interactions with others and their surroundings, body language, etc. is very important.

Wildlife Photography is the capturing of images of animals in their natural habitat. This type of photography can be extremely challenging do to the unpredictable nature of certain animals.

  • Get an eye-level perspective (or even lower) of your subject – Shooting at eye-level or below brings the person viewing your image right into the scene as well as provides them with the view of the world from the animal’s perspective.
  • Practice Patience – Animals are often unpredictable; you could spend all day not finding a single thing to shoot.
  • Know Your Subject – Wildlife photography is based upon capturing brief interactions or moments so it is necessary that you can somewhat predict your subject’s behavior.

Fashion Photography is committed to exhibiting fashion clothing and models and is most prominent in advertisements. Some tips to set your fashion photography apart from others:

  • Use Props – Have items for your models to interact with.
  • Experiment With Emotions – Instruct your models to imitate emotional outbursts (cry, laugh, act mad or sad).
  • Take Random Candid Shots – During a quick break continue to take pictures because you never know what you might stumble upon.
  • Get the Models to Move – As opposed to just sitting in a stuffy, closed-off studio, take your models outside.

The Victorian style became popular in the mid to late 19th century during the reign of Queen Victoria. During her rule industrial development exploded and luxurious and rich styles or art, literature and architecture prevailed. Early in the era art focused on realism and moral and spiritual undertones. Later on the Victorian style began to renounce realism and became a more multifaceted and diverse style. Bright colors were very popular during this time because it helped bring attention to the very small details encompassed in this style or art and woman were more often than not the subject of most pieces.

Happy Veterans Day

“Honoring the sacrifices many have made for our country in the name of freedom and democracy is the very foundation of Veterans Day.” – Charles B. Rangel

Veterans Day is observed every year on November 11th and is a United States holiday which memorializes military vets. The holiday is celebrated on November 11th because this is the date that marks the end of World War I. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 World War I was ended.

World War I was a global war that began on July 28th 1914 and lasted 4 years, 3 months and 14 days. There were 135 countries who took part in the war which killed over 15 million people. The opposing forces involved in World War I were the Allies and the Central Powers, the Allies consisted of The United States, the British, Russia, Belgium, France, Greece, Montenegro, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Romania and Serbia while the countries in the Central Powers included Bulgaria, Germany, Austria-Hungary and Turkey.

The war began after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand who was next in line to sit on the throne of Austria-Hungary. His death caused Austria-Hungary to declare war on Serbia.

Previously named Armistice Day, Veterans Day was renamed in 1954.

Veterans Day is often times confused with Memorial Day, the difference between the two is that Veterans Day recognizes the service of all U.S. military vets while Memorial Day celebrates the memory of those who died while in service or due to injuries during battle.

In 1968 a bill was passed by Congress which moved Veterans Day to the fourth Monday of October. The law went into effect in 1971 but was changed in 1975 by President Ford. Ford returned Veterans Day to November 11th because of the important history of this date.

“It’s about how we treat our veterans every single day of the year. It’s about making sure they have the care they need and the benefits that they’ve earned when they come home. It’s about serving all of you as well as you’ve served the United States of America. Freedom is never free.” – President Barack Obama

Angel

Favorite Hobby Friday: Angel Wright

Angel Since about the age of 5 (maybe even before, but I was too young to remember) I have been into drawing, painting, and writing. When I was little I used to write poetry and short stories for my aunts and uncles. Even to this day I will write wedding announcements and poems for someone in love, looking to get engaged and even those who have passed on.

Once I got into my teenage years I continued to enjoy drawing and writing, but it seemed fashion design constantly stayed on my mind. Over the years I have allowed my hobby to help me create wonderful things for other people. I used the internet to help teach myself how to sew and have made clothing, pillows and all kinds of amazing things. I have re-designed shoes, lamps and even painted cartoon characters on my kids’ bedroom walls.

The past few years however, I have used my creative bones to make unique diaper cakes and gifts. This is where I take a box of diapers, a baby blanket and maybe a few other baby items to create beautiful gifts for moms and dads to be. I have made diaper tricycles, diaper babies, diaper cakes and so much more.

The thing I love most about being creative is that art itself is so versatile and comes in so many forms. Art is more than just a painting or drawing; it’s more than singing or playing notes on a piano. Art is anything and everything you want it to be. Art can be hair design, dance, singing and acting. Expressing ones art is more than just dabbling in a hobby now and then. In my opinion, if you a love a hobby strong enough, it’s no longer considered a hobby in my eyes. It soon becomes a passion and an essential part of who you are and what you are really destined to be!

March Charity of the Month: Disabled American Veterans

March 2016 Charity: Disabled American Veterans

DAV_logo_body

The men and women of our armed services put their lives on the line every day. During active combat they are defending our freedom and fighting for the freedom of others. When they become disabled in the course of their duty they deserve to be taken care of back here at home. Unfortunately they sometimes fall through the cracks. Thankfully there are organizations like the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) who are there to help our soldiers who’ve given more than just time to their country.

To help with the mission, Frame USA will be donating to Disabled American Veterans in appreciation for your online order for the month of October.

From their website:

DAV is a nonprofit charity that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families, helping more than 1 million veterans in positive, life-changing ways each year. The organization provides more than 700,000 rides for veterans attending medical appointments and assists veterans with more than 300,000 benefit claims annually. In 2015, DAV helped attain more than $4 billion in new and retroactive benefits to care for themselves and for veterans, their families and survivors.

With almost 1,300 chapters and nearly 1.3 million members across the country, DAV empowers our nation’s heroes and their families by helping to provide the resources they need and ensuring our nation keep the promises made to them.

We are proud to support this great organization. Be sure to donate during the checkout process to help us support this great charity!

Dorian Richards

The Art I Hang in My Home: Dorian Richards

Dorian Richards My name is Dorian Richards and I’m a new face in the customer service department. Before arriving here, I knew nothing about framing and all it entails. Once I was able to learn, it sparked my interest in things I didn’t really value before. I had a desire to frame and display what matters to me the most. Of course, that would be my family.

My first picture is a few random photos of memories that I’ve shared with them. There is never a dull moment when it comes to my family. From a grandparent showing his grandchild the art of Indian poker or your mom photo bombing your selfie, these are moments I never wanted to forget. It shows exactly what it reads at the top “Family is everything”.

dorian blog 2

My second photo is my lovely parents! This photo is something I really cherish. My mom and dad have been married more than 25 yrs. They give me something to look up to. This picture was taken on my mom’s 50th birthday. With all these great memories that I have, they are made even more special with the perfect frame. If you love your family as much as I do, I would recommend keeping these moments alive by putting them in the quality frame.

Favorite Hobby Friday: Scrapbooking with Kelly

At Frame USA/Posterservice, we’re a creative bunch, and have a unique and diverse group of co-workers. We all celebrate each other’s interes kellyparty ts and talents. It’s in this spirit that we created the “Favorite Hobby” blog post; to highlight some of the special things our friends do when they’re not making, marketing or selling great picture frames. This time around we talk to our Marketing Director/Sales Manager Kelly Ackerman about what it is she loves to do when she’s away from the office.

My favorite hobby is scrapbooking, and I started in 2011.

One of my friends made a scrapbook of her and her husband’s first year of marriage to track the memories.  I loved the idea, so pretty much copied it J.  I’ve been scrapbooking ever, since on and off. What’s great is that I am creating and saving great memories along the way.  It is easy, years later to forget some of the little stuff, but I have it saved in a scrapbook. My most memorable experience with it was Showing my husband our first complete year of marriage through pictures, quotes, and reliving our memories.

Several of my friends thought it was crazy that I was kellyUCfootball scrapbooking, and I did too at first.  I’ve been able to tap into some creativity that I didn’t even know I had.  It’s been a lot of fun! It can be challenging, though. It can get pricey for sure, and it takes a lot of time.  I usually try to buy materials when they are on sale to help. Most weeks I don’t have time to scrapbook at all, unfortunately.  When I do have time, I usually spend several hours and put together a bunch of pages.  Right now, I’m probably about 10-12 pages behind of what I want to put together. kellywedding

If I had any advice to give someone interested in scrapbooking it would be this: Pick a goal!  Don’t just randomly say one day that you are going to scrapbook.  Choose to scrapbook something in particular and take it from there!

Every page is different depend on what I am scrapbooking.  I’m not sure you can master it per se, just have fun and create unique and fun pages. kellyTix
