Our New SEO Coordinator with a Fine Arts Background

My name is Tory and I am FrameUSA’s new SEO Coordinator.
Three years ago I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in illustration, and I thought to myself, “Now what?” Throughout all of art school, my professors made it clear that only a small fraction of us would ever have a career in the arts. However, it didn’t stop me from pursuing my calling as a creative individual.

Bonfire      moth

Reality hit after graduation that working as a full time artist takes years of dedicated practice outside of school, and that I would have to use my creativity in other ways. But I’ve continued making drawings and paintings and exhibiting in art shows. I’ve exhibited work in Nevada, Chicago, and in several galleries in Cincinnati. During September 2017, I completed a studio residency in Ontario, Canada.
The ability to express myself and explore my imagination through art making is more than therapeutic, it’s an essential part of myself. I love exploring color, world building, and making characters.

As I started promoting my artwork online, I realized how interested I was in the marketing side of my work. Since I was a kid using dial-up AOL, I have always been fascinated by computers and the internet. After doing a web design project for a client, I was able to quickly pick up on SEO and online marketing. So I have decided to pursue that further with this new position at FrameUSA, while still making art in my free time. It’s an incredibly exciting opportunity.

Insight Into Our New Inside Sales Representative

I grew up with a total of 10 siblings including myself. My father and mother moved to the U.S after Vietnam just shortly after the Vietnam War. They had nothing coming over, with children already coming over, and more to come in transit. The struggle was real for them, my mother and father did whatever was necessary for us to have a good life and experience nothing but good and wellness. There is not a day that goes by without me thinking of both my parents and what they have gone through. My love and appreciation will always be there for them, even through the argument and disagreements we may have had in the past, I owe everything to them, I mean everything.

I have one word that I remind myself every day, “gratitude.” A word that reminds me, that life is short, those who help you along life have used up their time and sacrifice so much for you to have a life with less struggles. My parents are the ones I owe most, if not all, my gratitude too. And the reason I say most, is because we can go through life solo or we can accept the hands of others and learn from that experience. My mother told me, “Never expect anything in return and always help those who need a hand.” As I pondered her words, I knew what she meant, I understood her words as, I will never completely know the outcome of any situation given in life, but I would at least know the outcome of my choices and how I present myself in this world to others.

Her words kept me to be grateful under any situation, getting cut from a team, failing an exam, not getting the job I applied for. I can’t even imagine the hardship my parents gone through to even give us these opportunities. With this mindset, I know that others go through difficult times to, maybe they are having a bad day and need the moral support. My father or mother didn’t have to tell me how important it is to work hard in life, I believe it’s something you must see and experience first-hand, and I saw it through my parents, even my older siblings. I was given the gift of Choice, to choose what I wanted to do in life and what to experience.

FRAME USA has given me the opportunity to be a part of their team, and I am unbelievably grateful for that. It shows that they are willing to give me a chance as an Inside Sales Representative to prove myself that I am a dedicated and smart worker. I cannot wait to grow within this wonderful company and see where it takes me from here. Thank you FRAME USA.

The Birthday of Abraham Lincoln

Today marks the birthday of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States of America! Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in a log cabin in Kentucky. He was the middle of three children with his youngest brother dying in infancy in the early 1800’s.

In 1816 the Lincoln family moved from Kentucky to Indiana, the main reason for the relocation was on account of property disputes and discrepancies in Kentucky, but another part was on account of slavery. The Lincoln’s were members of Separate Baptists church and had harsh moral standards opposing alcohol and slavery. Despite his religions standings, in 1842 Abe married Mary Todd who was from a wealth slave-holding family. The pair went on to have four children but tragically only one of them made it to adulthood.

It was in 1832, after the failing of his general store in New Salem, Illinois that Abe began his political career. Two years later, on his second campaign, Lincoln won election to the state legislature and two years after that he was admitted to the Illinois bar after teaching himself law by reading a plethora of law books. Lincoln continued on as a lawyer and then a Republican leader until 1860.

On November 6, 1860, Abe Lincoln was elected the 16th President of the United States and he was the first President to be elected from the Republican Party. Lincoln won this election only because of his support in the North and West; he only won two of the 996 counties in the Southern states and no ballots were cast for him in 10 of the 15 Southern states. The US was divided and that came to a head on April 12, 1861 when Confederate troops opened fire on the Union, marking the beginning of the Civil War. This war later became known as the bloodies war in American history with over 600,000 lives loss.

On January 1, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. This proclamation declared that all persons held as slaves shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free! What a lot of people don’t know is that the Emancipation Proclamation on applied to states in open rebellion (Arkansas, Virgina, Texas, Nor Carolina, South Carolina, Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida and Alabama) but not slave-holding border states (Missouri, Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky) or areas of the Confederacy that had already been under Union control. In simple terms; the Emancipation Proclamation prohibited the Union army from returning runaway slaves to their owners so any escaped slave who was able to get behind the lines of the Union army and any who lived in an area captured by the Union where therefore considered free.

Four months after the Union defeated the Confederacy at the Battle of Gettysburg (the biggest battle of the Civil War), Lincoln gave his most famous speech, the Gettysburg Address. The Gettysburg Address lasted only two minutes and is only 272 words but it’s power was felt well beyond that.

Abraham Lincoln was later assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865 while watching a play at Ford’s Theater. He was killed five days after the surrender or Robert E. Lee as the Civil War was winding down.

Hanging Picture Frames The Frame USA Way

Even though Frame USA specializes in the manufacturing and distribution of picture frames, we’ll be the first to admit that not every piece of artwork calls for a frame (many contemporary pieces are meant to display alone). You should ideally use a frame any time you do not have a canvas.

Some artist simply mat their artwork while others will buy a frame in the correct size for their piece. Custom framing is another option, but the concept remains the same — don’t let the framing overpower the artwork. As another precaution, don’t frame a piece of art for the sole purpose of matching a room. Art can be arranged in any which way, whereas a room can undergo many changes over time.

Once you’ve decided on the proper frame for your art, the next step is frame hanging! When hanging picture frames you want to aim for the average eye-level to get the best reaction. Meaning once the framed artwork is on the wall, you should be able to stand in front of the piece with your head level, your gaze should fall just about in the center or just below the center of the artwork.  Art is meant to be viewed and appreciated, and won’t have quite the same effect unless it’s easily viable.

Hanging Picture Frames

When selecting what kind of frame hanging accessories to use; you must take into consideration a few things. First, you need to thing about what the type of material the wall you are hanging frames on is made out of? This is important because you need to get picture frame hanger accessories appropriate for that type of material. The second thing to consider is how heavy is your piece of art? Most frame hanging accessories have sizes designed for certain pound ranges; select one rated for the picture frame you intend to hang.  If in doubt, go for a stronger hanger.

Now is time for the best part, stand back and enjoy your framed art!

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America

The Alzheimer's Foundation of America

“The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s (AFA) mission is to provide optimal care and services to individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related illnesses and to their families and caregivers.

AFA was founded in 2002 by Bert E. Brodsky, whose mother lived with Alzheimer’s disease from 1980-1992. At that time, there was little information available and nowhere to turn for support. Mr. Brodsky’s goal was to make sure that no other family living with Alzheimer’s disease would have to go through the journey alone.

Fifteen years later, AFA has grown to a network of more than 2,600 member organizations nationwide that provide direct care and services. To date, AFA has trained more than 13,000 healthcare professionals in dementia-specific care, provided free, confidential memory screenings to over 3.5 million people, and provides support, counseling and education to thousands.”

To help with the vision, Frame USA will be donating to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America in appreciation for your online order for the month of February.

We are proud to support this great organization. Be sure to donate during the checkout process to help us support this great charity!

Mounting Tape:
When hanging picture frames, mounting tape is often safer, faster, and more versatile than screws and nails. The only downside to mounting tape is that it is only useful for smaller and lighter frames, it is not strong enough to support bigger, heavier picture frame styles.
