Made in USA – The Latest Headlines

The Motley Fool reports that not long ago, US Manufacturing plants were in decline, many closing shop and moving over seas. Today though, it reports a new trend in bringing manufacturing back to our shores and cites a few interesting examples. –Source

  • Well known chip maker Intel that has previously manufactured almost completely over seas, is opening facilities in Arizona.
  • Caterpillar – Known for large tractors and machinery, has announced that they will be moving some manufacturing from Japan to Georgia and Texas.
  • They also report that Apple – previously one of the kings of exporting manufacturing to China, has announced that it will move production of one of their Mac computers to Texas. It is still unknown what products exactly.

Made in U.S.A. – A New Documentary

This month has seen the release of a new documentary “Made in the USA: The 30 Day Journey”, by Made in USA Films, LLC.

Summary – Look around you for items marked ‘Made in the USA’. How many items did you find? Could the loss of manufacturing jobs be a vital reason why our economy is struggling? Does ‘Made in the USA’ mean anything anymore? After witnessing the tragic effects caused by a factory shutdown in his hometown of Ravenswood, WV, Josh Miller takes off across the country for 30 days on an epic journey into the heart of America seeking to discover the answers to these questions.

Made in the USA Films, LLC presents a full-length documentary that will explore the rise and fall of USA made products. Josh Miller will set out on a journey in which he will live off of USA made products for 30 days. Can he do it!? During Josh’s journey he will talk with locals to find out if “Made in the USA” really means anything anymore. If not, what does that mean for the future of our country? On July 17th Demi Lovato released a new video for her song, “Made In USA”…

From Billboard – “Made in the U.S.A.” is Lovato’s follow-up to “Heart Attack,” which peaked at No. 10 on the Hot 100 chart and dipped to No. 48 on last week’s tally. “Demi” has sold 209,000 copies since its release last May, according to Nielsen SoundScan. –Source
