What I frame in my Home: Beth Kuhnell Posterservice Licensing

I think it’s a fair question to ask what an employee of a great frame and poster company would choose to hang on the walls of their own home, I mean we are the experts, right? (Fun fact: We are!) Of course, what attracted me to this company in the first place was my love for art, so of course I also enjoy decorating my own apartment. I would like to share what I’ve chosen to frame on my own walls, whether it came from Frame USA and Posterservice, (which have obviously been great enablers in terms of what I choose hang up), photos of my own, or even my own artwork.

It’s tough to choose the favorite thing I have up, but ultimately I would have to pick my wedding photos, (Okay, so maybe it’s not that tough) which I had framed at our retail store earlier this year. They came out amazing and I get compliments on these all the time.

Above our fireplace (slash beer shrine) I have a copy of a Cincinnati skyline print that we gave away to customers and employees here at Frame USA to celebrate our retail store grand re-opening back in 2013. Besides being a stunning shot of my home city, this image is also pretty special to me personally, as I was the one

who communicated with the artist Keith Allen to get him on board from the project. Below the mantle you’ll also notice the license plate from my last car, which sadly was totaled last year (RIP Car), luckily I came out of that fine, but decided to keep a little memento, because why not?

Speaking of beer… here is the arrangement we have behind our couch in the living room. (Noticing a theme?). My husband and I really love the craft beer theme, and even homebrew our own beer.

I also don’t mind framing some of my own artwork, including one of my pieces from my senior thesis project

at UC – DAAP. This piece, “Fibers” is illustrated on stained wood!

Another drawing of mine is hanging in our computer room, and sports a wicked awesome wood picture frame courtesy of the Frame USA custom framing team.

This isn’t technically on a wall, but on the door to our bedroom. I cut this Legend of Zelda logo out of contact paper and placed it on the door. I really enjoy creating unique wall art like this.

The next one I guess you could call a combination of my own artwork, and a Frame USA/Posterservice project. I designed this ‘Shots!’ poster for the Posterservice line in 2014, since then it has taken off and can even be found in Spencer Gifts stores throughout the nation! So naturally I had to have a copy of my own.

While that is not everything I have on my walls, those are for sure some of my favorites! (And some of them would not be there had I not started my career at this company.) I think the

best rule to follow when choosing what to put on your walls is, have FUN!

Metal Picture Frames

Make Your Business Shine with Metal Picture Frames!

Whether you work in an office, a restaurant a garage or a factory, you’re going to have things hanging on the walls. Inspirational “Successories” posters, a  copy of your drink menu, safety guidelines and certificates, or even just prints to spruce up your decor. This isn’t a dorm room where you can just tack them to the wall, this is your business. You need nice picture frames to hang your art and photos in. You don’t necessarily want plastic poster frames but maybe you’re also not looking for wood picture frames either–you want something more sleek and modern. A perfect solution for your framing needs would be metal picture frames.

Metal picture frames are a great way to show off your business’s wall hangings. There are many benefits to choosing metal frames. For one thing, they’re versatile when it comes to styling. They have slim profiles giving them a sleek, modern look that would be at home in any office setting. Most come in a shiny or “flat” finish so you can decide how much attention you want drawn to the image being framed. You can choose a flat finish frame if you have neutral images that you want to blend into the overall decor, or you can go with shiny if you want to make sure people’s eyes are being caught and focused on your piece. Another benefit to metal picture frames is that they’re lightweight. They’re easy to move around and wall mount. In addition to their lightness, metal frames are also sturdy. Another consideration that is specific to food-service type businesses is that metal picture frames are easily cleaned. If you’ve got pictures hanging up at your tables, food particles can easily find their way up there. With metal frames it’s a snap to just wipe them down and keep them fresh and sparkling. The same goes for a garage where dust and grease are omnipresent. A good scrub with a damp cloth will have metal frames looking like new.

Metal I Picture Frame
Metal I Blue

At Frame USA we have several different styles of metal picture frame, each one having its own profile and color options. Our most basic and popular metal frames are our Metal I and Metal II series. These frames have the same profile– a 3/8″ width with a rounded face–but differ in color choices and finish. Metal I has the shiny finish with the more basic colors–white, blue, red gold and silver.

Metal II Contrast Gold
Metal II Contrast Gold

Metal II has the more flat, “brushed” finish with more elegant colors like bronze, old world and blue pewter, contrast silver, among others.

Let’s say you like the look of the Metal I and Metal II but you want something a little thicker and heavier. Our Heavy Metal picture frames give you the same rounded face but with a 5/8″ width and a heavier build. It comes in four colors, shiny black, flat black, gold and silver and is ideal for more labor oriented shops that need to display safety regulations and certifications.

Heavy Metal Black

Maybe you aren’t a huge fan of the rounded face, though. You want something flat and you want some different colors choices for your frames. We’ve got you covered

Glory Metal Purple

there too. Our Glory Metal picture frames have a 5/8″ profile with a flat face, and in addition to the normal black, silver, gold and bronze also features a purple, evergreen and a steel grey. These picture frames would do well holding menus and specials or even posters in a theater lobby.

All of these frames come complete with glazing, backing and hanging hardware, all pre-assembled. “That’s all fine and good,” you say, “but I’ve already got a guy that cuts plexiglass for me and I use special backing. Do you have something I can just put together myself?” As a matter of fact we do! Our U-Frame-It kits come in two different styles; a 7/8″ depth and a 1″ depth, both feature the same colors. These include two frame sections in a certain size (so if you want to build an 11×17 you would buy one kit of 11″ and one kit of 17″) that start at 8″ and go all the way up to 51″. You can mix and

U-Frame-It Kit I Red

match to build any combination of sizes for your framed art.

So when you’re thinking about dressing up your business and you’re wondering what kind of frames you want to use, consider metal picture frames. They’re a solid solution that rocks!

If you’re a baseball fan, you know that the Cincinnati Reds had one of the greatest dynasties in all of sports, The Big Red Machine. In the 1970’s baseball greats such as Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, and Tony Perez (among others) came together to win five National League pennants, and two World Series titles! Only instead of winning pennants and World Series titles, we’re working hard every day to create raving fans. Any customer who logs onto the FrameUSA.com site to purchase any of our American-made products can be sure that a lot of time and care will go into each order; you’re going to have a team full of Peter Rose’s and Joe Morgan’s in our warehouse cutting and assembling your frames, making sure each one is a winner for you. And if you’re not sure what you’re looking for, or can’t decide between one of our awesome wood or metal frames? Star Wars: Episode 4

Today in History: STAR WARS Strikes Back (again and then again)

We all appreciate the impact “Star Wars” has had on pop culture. It can’t be overstated. Whle “Jaws” may have been the first major

Star Wars: Episode 4
Star Wars: Episode 4

“summer blockbuster” in 1975, “Star Wars” came along and nearly doubled it’s lifetime box office (and I’m just talking about the very first Star Wars movie, now referred to as “Episode 4″ in the franchise canon). It’s soaked into our identity and vernacular. Everybody knows what a lightsaber is–even kids who’ve never even seen one of the movies. If you go up to someone and say, “Long ago….” there’s a good chance they’ll come back with, “…in a galaxy far, far away.” It both influences other media and infiltrates it. There were a ton of no-name knockoff space operas in the years that followed, trying to cash in on the Star Wars fever. Of course, without the talent and passion behind them they were easily forgotten. And Star Wars is routinely mentioned in music (Weird Al has at least two or three songs about Star Wars), been the central theme of TV shows (remember when Leonard and Sheldon broke into Skywalker Ranch on “The Big Bang Theory”?)…it’s one of the most ubiquitous films of all tme. Maybe THE most.

The original theatrical run of Episode 4 was just not enough for people. VCR’s and movie rentals were still a few years ahead of the mainstream and people wanted to see this movie over, and over again. So on August 13th, 1982, two years after the seconf film (The Empire Strikes Back!) was released, Star Wars burst into theaters again, blasters blazing. It included the trailer for the third (and supposedly final) film, “Return of the Jedi.” During this run it grossed over $15 million. A five year old movie that everybody had already seen. People just couldn’t get enough of Luke Skywalker, stanring off into the burning Tatooine sunset. They needed to relive Han Solo asking, “Who’s scruffy looking?” And everyone needed more R2-D2 and C-3P0 in their lives (we still do).

That would be amazing enough except that Star Wars got ANOTHER WIDE THEATRICAL RELEASE! Almost twenty years after the original run George Lucas gave us the (fan-loathing and overly retconned)

The Empire Strikes Back!
The Empire Strikes Back!

Special Editions. These were digitally remastered, had a ton of extra scenes added, other scenes and musical cues tweaked, it made a ton of money, I don’t care for them at all. So let’s move on to the release of the VHS Special Edition Boxed Set. This happened, AGAIN on August 13th, the summer of 1997. This was where George Lucas and  the fans he’d given so much to broke up. The Special Editions were released with no plans to offer the original theatrical versions (the ones that he didn’t mess around with). Star Wars fans were (and still are) furious. They mostly did not like the additions and changes and didn’t understand why they couldn’t get cleaned up restorations of the originals (evenutally they were included, bare bones

Return of the Jedi
Return of the Jedi

and with no re-mastering as secondary discs with the special Edition DVD release). Star Wars fans are passionate, to say the least, and were crestfallen. There’s even an entire documentary about the rift between Lucas and his fans (The People VS. George Lucas).

With Disney having taken over the franchise and the first film under the new regime due out this Christmas, hopes are high that the movies will get back to their glory days. It’s doubtful though, that they’ll ever be able to recapture the magic of that first run, of that first film (or that second run for that matter). So while you’re thinking nostalgic thoughts about enjoying Star Wars with your dad as a kid, playing with your action figures and making the little guns go “pew pew!” why don’t you head on over to Posterservice.com and check out our selection of Star Wars posters. Maybe pick one (or all of them) up, frame them with posterframes from Frame USA and relive those Alderaan days and Tatooine nights (and get ready for the onslaught of new movies).

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

Valentine’s Day Ideas

There is a little over a week left to prepare for Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day sometimes can be difficult especially when it follows relatively close to other gifting holidays. So what else is left to give the people in your life that appear to have everything?! We’ve compiled a couple of ideas to help inspire your inner crafter and create one of a kind gifts for everyone special in your life.

Earlier this week we started creating a pinterest board with Valentine’s Day ideas that we came across. This board is a compilation of home decorating ideas and gifts for your child’s teacher all the way to your significant other. We will be continually putting more and more ideas into this board leading up to V-Day.

Valentines Day Ideas Pinterest Board

Here are some of our favorites we have seen so far.

Valentine for Your Child’s Favorite Teacher:

Valentine's Gift Idea for Teachers

Frame a quote for your child’s favorite teacher. There are so many free print out sites that have quotes like this one or others. If you want something more meaningful, find a class picture, or a picture with your child and the teacher. Having your child decorate the frame will set your gift apart from the standard store bought valentine. Our Unfinished Series is the perfect frame for the job!

Valentine for Your Parents:

Valentine for Parents

Handmade valentines are just so much better than store bought ones, especially when the recipient is your child’s grandparent. This idea will kill two birds with one stone! Occupy your kids by having them decorate a frame to be used for a valentine for a grandparent.

Don’t have kids? That shouldn’t stop you! Decorate a frame yourself and frame a picture of you and your parent from when you were a kid.

Our Decorate-It frame series is the perfect choice for all ages!

Valentine for Your Best Friend:

Valentine for Best Friend

Valentine’s Day isn’t just for your significant others! It’s a day to celebrate your love and appreciation for all those you care about, best friends included. Everyone has a favorite picture with their best friend so rather than let it sit in some photo album never to be seen or on your Facebook, use it to make a memorable and meaningful valentine! Find a quote that is appropriate and fitting for your relationship and decorate a frame with it!

Either our Decorate-It Series or our Unfinished Series is perfect for this!

Not big on quotes? Paint our Unfinished Architect Frame instead!

Valentine for Your Significant Other:

Valentine for S.O.

Last but definitely not least is a valentine for your significant other. The ideas for this one are endless, but we love the idea of using a shadowbox for this valentine and to make it extra special make it a custom shadowbox using our Shadowbox Elite Unfinished frame.

If you and your sweetie have a song, or a poem that you both love, why not write it out on the back of the shadowbox and use letter tiles like you find in scrabble games to write an extra special message!

If you hadn’t noticed, all of the ideas that we gave you here had one thing in common, they all emphasized creating and decorating frames. We think Valentine’s Day gifts should be much more than just a bag of candy and a store bought card. DIY gifts may take extra time, but the feeling they give your loved ones is way worth it.

To make these valentine gift ideas even more sweet (pun definitely intended) we have a sale going on with all the frames mentioned! Save on the frames you use for your V-day gifts that will mean the world to your loved ones. This sale expires 2.5.15 at midnight!

A Day In The Life of A Customer Service Rep From an Outsiders Perspective

A Day in the life of a Customer Service Representative from the eyes of an outsider.

Like any other company Frame USA Employees go through training when they first get hired. They spend time with their manager and go through what they are supposed to do day in and day out. Frame USA however has a different training process, instead of having a training day or two day training, Frame USA employees have an entire week of training. They spend time with each department and learn how to do each part of the company. The employees won’t become masters at each process but they will become familiar with it.

This training week comes incredibly in handy when we have employees out of the office, whether it’s for a trade show or for personal reasons. Other areas of the departments can fill in for them if they get really busy throughout the week.

This week we have 2 employees that work in our customer service/sales department out of the office at a Trade Show. This leaves only 4 other employees to man the area. That’s where I come in.

Since my job primarily involves not conversing with customers or vendors and requires me to be on the computer the full day I make the perfect candidate to jump in and help out the customer service sales department while still accomplishing my day to day tasks.

The day of a Customer Service Rep begins like all of the office employees at 8:15 A.M. EST. They spend their morning before we open to customers checking emails from the previous day, processing internet orders that have been placed. Having meetings with their superiors.

Then it happens, the clock hits 9:00 A.M. EST and the phones click on. Some days this is like the stampede scene in the Lion King, silence and then all of a sudden BAM all the phones are ringing at once. Other days there is a steady trickle of phone calls throughout the day.

The Bigger companies that offer a live chat service on their website most likely have a bunch of different teams doing each different part of a CS representative. At Frame USA our team of 6 customer service/sales reps handles it all from live chats, to ordering, to answering shipping questions, and answering billing questions. They do however have help from all areas of the building answering some of these questions.

The same friendly individuals that talk with you over the phones are the same knowledgeable folks answering your questions over live chat.

In between answering phones and live chatting, customer service reps spend their time entering orders from customers as well as outside sales reps. This process although fairly simple can also be challenging, when you have humans entering in orders, you run the risk of human errors happening, for a number to be off resulting in the wrong product being ordered. Frame USA has employed a system to prevent these by having all orders checked over by someone other than the person who entered it.

At first glance, the job of a customer service representative seems fairly easy, but when you get down into the position, as I have this week, you discover that the job of customer service representatives is much more complex. They are the contact to customers. They are the people that can make or break sales. A rude customer service rep, as many of you have probably experienced turns an opinion of the company to a negative one. The job of a customer service rep requires a patient, self-motivating, hardworking individual. Not everyone on this planet has what it takes to hold this position, but in my opinion as an outsider, we have found the 6 who do.

If you would like to give a shout out to one of our reps that have helped you we would love to hear from you, Just leave a comment!

Stay tuned next week as one of our 6 talented CS Reps gives an actual account of a their day.

Traditions During The Holidays from Frame USA Employees

Traditions for the Holidays

Today is the last full day for Frame USA Employees before the New Year. Frame USA Employees reflect on their favorite Holiday Traditions. Here is what a few of our hardworking employee have to say:

  Holiday Traditions 3

“On Christmas Eve, my middle daughter Emily and I, take our convertible car with our dog cookie. No matter how cold it is we put the top down and drive through the neighborhoods for an hour or so. We stop at Starbucks to stay warm and stop to get our dog a treat or Christmas present.   We wear our Christmas hats and the entire drive we wave at everyone passing by and tell them Merry Christmas!  We always drive through the Walmart (which is always busy with people) and make sure to tell them all best wishes to all the people a little too stressed out. It is without a doubt one of my favorite days and things to do in the whole world!”

-Daniel P. Regenold, CEO Frame USA, Inc.

“My favorite tradition is spending quality time with all of my family!

-Kelly Ackerman, Marketing Director

“We open presents”

-Brandon Swinehart, In-House Sales Representative

“Every year we go up to my wife’s Aunt’s house in New Philadelphia Ohio and all the family comes over and the kids all get presents and we watch them open those, then we eat, and then we play bingo and there are small prize bags filled with just little stuff that you can get at Walgreens (last year I got Cocoa butter in mine). It’s fun. And we usually watch “A Christmas Story” while we’re there… We also use mini marshmallows for the bingo chips and we throw a lot of them at each other.

-Kelley Kombrinck, Customer Service Representative

“I am the youngest of four and even though I’m 22 I am still always one of the first people awake on Christmas morning. It is the only day that I’m perfectly okay with getting up early and no matter how old I get I think this will be my role in my family!”

-Brooke Skyllingstad, SEO Coordinator

“I will stay up late and sleep the entire day”

-Andy Scarth, Art Director

“We spend the day with my husband’s family.  He is the youngest of seven children.  His mother is 82 and still very much involved.  Dozens and dozens of people come to our gathering with potluck dishes, and four generations of Hoctors gather under one roof for the day.  It is always a very special day.”

-Leslie J. Hoctor, Buyer/Inventory Manager

“In our family we have the 45 minute rule for sitting and eating Holiday dinners, no one is allowed to leave the table until 45minutes has past. Reason is we realized that we would be cooking all day, and it would only take our boy’s 15 minutes at most to eat.  They are of course grown now. But we still ask them to follow this rule.”

-Jill Gugel, Administrative Assistant

We make santa cookies using my great grandma’s butter cookie recipe, and hand decorate them every year.”

How To Frame A Poster

Tips for framing a poster

Posters are a great way to decorate your bedrooms but we often see people struggling to know how to frame posters. We thought we would help everyone out and give you our suggestions on framing posters! Spoiler Alert: We have a sale on poster frames going on right now, coupon code and more information about the sale are at the bottom of this post!

There are two things that make framing posters so difficult: The Size and the cheap poster prices.  Posters are generally large; the standard poster sizes are typically 24×36 and larger.  It will come to no surprise to you that large picture frames are going to be more expensive than small frames. So we thought we would give you our products that will make framing posters quick and easy. We have separated out our suggestions based on the age of the recipient.

framing a poster for Young Children:

When it comes to framing posters for children you want to keep it as inexpensive as possible because they are so young and their tastes in things change so rapidly. They may decide that the movie Frozen is there favorite thing in the whole world one minute and then decide the next that their favorite thing in the whole world is actually My Little Pony.

You also have to be worried about safety when it comes to hanging large pieces in your children’s room.

For these two reasons we suggest going with our basic plastic poster frame: The Corrugated Series.

This series is made of Mylar which is a thin plastic channel with colored film on it. The sides of the poster frame slide off and back on for easy assembling. This series is one that will fit in every single group because it is so simple. They are available in all standard poster frame sizes.

FRAMING A POSTER FOR Teenagers:

This group has a pretty wide range of ages in it so there is more options for framing posters.

As mentioned above, our corrugated series is great for all ages, especially young children and teenagers. Another perk of the corrugated series for your older children is that they don’t need help assembling the frame. They can change out their poster choices easily with the slide off strips.

The kids in the middle of this age group are beginning to get more solidified interests and may want to have a sturdier frame. We suggest considering our Foam Core Series. This series is similar to the Corrugated poster frame Series with one difference, instead of cardboard backing it comes with a much sturdier Foam Core Backing.

For kids at the top of this age group, they know their interests, they are thinking about college and life after high school. You want something that makes their room feel like their own space, and  give them the option of having something inexpensive but incredibly sturdy. We have a third option in our Mylar Poster Frame Series called The Hardboard Poster Frame Series. This series is perfect for kids who have posters that must last (until they get to college and completely change their interests). Our Hardboard Posterframes are cheap poster frames with an incredibly sturdy backing.

FRAMING A POSTER FOR College Kids:

The three posterframes mentioned above definitely still apply to these kids because college kids are rough and things break so why not give them a cheap poster framing option. Our Corrugated Series is probably the most popular with the dorm crowd because it’s light weight and can be hung using poster mounts on dorm walls.

For the kids that want a little bit more elegance for their apartments and dorm rooms we offer two affordable poster frames that have an elegant flair to them. Our Deluxe poster frames and Budget Saver Poster Frame Series are made from polystyrene which is hard plastic frame that is lightweight. They feature a more prominent molding to be a conversation piece in their home away from home.

FRAMING A POSTER FOR Adults:

For those that have graduated college and/or have been in the workforce for quite some time you know what you like, and you have a more flexible budget when it comes to framing posters. You could always go with your traditional black wood frames, but if you still want cheap frames for posters than you will be very interested in our newest posterframe picture frame line. Our Simply Poly Series has all the style of a classic wood picture frame moulding but it’s made out of the same material as our Deluxe and Budget Saver so it should be high on your list of cheap framing options!

We absolutely love Simply Poly here in the office because they are so durable, and versatile but still have such an elegance that none of our other posterframes posses.

Want to know the best part about all of these suggestions? Right now you can get them for 10% off!

Take 10% off Posterframes with code: WHITEBOARD

Starting today until November 17th at midnight you can get any of our posterframes on Frameusa.com for 10% off the listed price using the coupon code WHITEBOARD. Add that to your list of cheap framing options and you got yourself beautifully framed posters for cheap!

Life Hacks: Frame USA Edition Part Two

Last week we posted the first part of the life hacks that we provide to our customers and as promised here is part two! We hope that these will serve you well as the holiday season approaches:

Frame USA’s Life Hacks

Life Hack #6: We offer wholesale Prices!

This one is kind of a no-brainer. We value our customers, so when we find one that is planning on ordering only large orders of picture frames, we want to reward them for giving us their business. The only thing they have to do is fill out our B2B form. Once they are approved, they will see a brand new list of pricing for all of our products!

Life Hack #7: We make it easy to save big.

It’s safe to say that our picture frames are inexpensive high quality products, but we love our customers, so we give them numerous opportunities to purchase our products for even lower prices. The best way to stay up to date on our products is to sign up for our email newsletter. (we promise not to bombard your email  with useless information) If you by chance love to see and read useless information, well you should check out and follow our social media pages. Not only do we post sales that are exclusive to our followers but we give you insight information into our company!

Life Hack #8: Have a problem? We’re just a chat away.

Just because we’re an online business, doesn’t mean that we aren’t here for you. Our team of customer service agents is here to help you solve any problems or answer any questions that may come your way about our website, or our products. On top of being a critical part of the company these agents are available via live chat (accessible on our website) to help make things easier for you, don’t hesitate to reach out them during business hours (9AM-5PM est)

Life Hack #9: Track your order easily online.

If you’re one of our more active customers, you may be familiar with our tracking system, and you may hate it, well we have heard the complaints and we listened to you and have updated the tracking system. Although it’s not as real time as the Dominos pizza tracker, we’re pretty happy with it and we hope you are too! You are now able to see just what stage of production your order is using our ‘Track My Order’ feature. Not only is this available for our customers that order picture frames online, we have also made it possible for customers that place orders over the phone to use this feature (ask your agent about this the next time you call in!).

Life Hack #10: We will give you 110%

I bet you’re scratching your head about how exactly this is a life hack for you, but trust us it is. Think about your worst shopping experience ever, was it the company’s product that angered you or was it the service you received from that company? More often than not a company that leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth did so by giving you awful service.
