We’ve talked about real wood picture frames vs. our eco-friendly composite frames on our blog before. The information holds true–if you’re looking for your frames to look more rustic or have a real wood grain, then you’ll want to by a real wood frame. If you’re looking for something that is smooth, sleek and all of the frames need to look identical, go with our eco-friendly wrapped frames.
Frame USA CEO Dan Regenold took some time to discuss the difference between the two as it applies to wholesale buyers. Have a look and see what’s best for you!

Frame USA Warehouse Outlet in Cincinnati, Ohio is having a HUGE tent sale this weekend! From 8/23-8/25, you can save up to 50% on all of our frames under the tent! After our success last year and how much fun our customers had, we decided to bring this event back with even better deals than before. Be sure to stop by and look out for the people wearing name tags–we’d be glad to assist you in any way that you may need.
So let’s say you need some picture frames for your next project… Well, SOME is an understatement. You need hundreds, or even thousands! But these can’t be any run-of-the-mill frames, they need to be perfect. You need craft store quality picture frames at “Made In China” prices. Unfortunately, we all know what happens when you outsource a frame job: bad joins, poor quality and an overall disappointing experience (not to mention the fact that you didn’t buy an American product!)
There are dozens of other online retailers for wholesale picture frames, but none that commit to quality and price like we do. We’ve done the research and strengthened our framers to bring you the finest product and price you will find in the United States. Don’t believe us? Fill out our custom quote form and we’ll give you an estimate. Then do the same with one of our competitors. Time and time again, our customers are thrilled to receive such a cheap price point on our high-quality bulk picture frames.
For even better deals, visit our Frame Closeouts site. From there you can choose between wood, premium wood, metal, poster, and polystyrene frames–All at discounted prices! The only catch to these prices is that the frames are a “grab bag”, there is no way of knowing which series of frame you will receive. For colors, feel free to submit a custom quote and let us know your needs. We will do our best to assist you in any way we can!
Real Wood or a Wrapped Frame – What is best for you?
Many times we are on the phone speaking with customers and giving them guidance about the best kind of frame that they may want to use for their project. Frequently, when we bring up our “wrapped frames” we might get the comment from customers that “wrapped frames aren’t real wood, so we don’t want to use them.”
Real wood frames are great and we have many manufacturers around the United States supply us with moulding made from ash, poplar, basswood, oak and other woods that customers are familiar with. The beauty of these mouldings is that they come from a real tree and they show the beauty of the wood that is associated with them.
The problem with real wood is that is can show many of the splendors and birthmarks of Mother Nature. The wood might show knot holes or streaks or other imperfections in the wood that simply can’t be glossed over or removed. If we are running a group of 25 or 50 frames for a customer it is possible that there will be minor color variations in the real wood frames. If the customer is willing to accept these subtle differences real wood is fine and we have several real wood frames at great values.
However, several higher end customers – in this Pottery Barn world that we live in—want all frames to match exactly. They don’t want any imperfections or differences. For these kind of customers Frame USA highly recommends our “wrapped wood picture frames”. Many of them are labeled Bonanza Wood or with an eco-friendly symbol in our catalog or on Frameusa.com.
The thing that makes wrapped frames so great is that every single one looks exactly the same—from 1 to 1000. If you put them all up next to each other on the wall they will match perfectly. Perhaps people get a little off track when they think about “wrapped frames”. These do come from real wood—just pressed wood glued together—it’s just a totally different concept. And the beauty of these wrapped wood picture frames is that they are far more “Eco-Friendly” for today’s world.
Changing to a wrapped frame might require a little bit of a mindset change on your part, but for the price and value, and almost perfect quality I suggest you consider trying one of our wrapped wooden frames next time you have a project. We think you will be thoroughly happy with your choice. If you are die-hard wood fan, that’s OK to stay the course. But change, in this case is not bad at all. Call or email one of Frameusa.com’s sales consultants to discuss or live chat on line with us NOW!
Did you know that at Frame USA, we have our very own engraving machines?
Previously, we’ve stuck to taking laser engraving orders over e-mail, volume framing quotes or phone calls, but with the launch of our new website, we decided to build an engraving web app from scratch! Today, we’re going to walk your through the process of placing orders for your very own engraved frames–without the outrageous prices you find in retail.
Your First step is simple–just click on the “Laser Engraving” tab on the top navigation! (In the image above, we have highlighted the tab in yellow so that you can locate it on our site.) This will set you on your way to creating your very own, unique product.
Once you’ve clicked the Laser Engraving tab, you will be taken to this page. This lists all the different frames that you can engrave and personalize! Just as a general rule of thumb, you’ll want to try to stick to darker colors. We highly recommend our Corporate series for engraving–customers can’t get enough!
We’ve selected our best-selling Corporate series for this demonstration, so let’s begin! First, you will select the color that you would like to engrave. Please note that not all colors are available for engraving (mainly due to color issues with wrap/MDF construction.)
Once you’ve decided on a color that you’re pleased with, it’s time to scroll down to the volume order form. Here you will select the color and size of the frame you would like to engrave. You’ll do this by clicking the boxes right-most column called “Engrave?”. After clicking, simply select the quantity that you would like. After you’ve added all of the frames you desire, scroll below and click “Engrave & add to cart”.
You will then be directed to this listing page, which is mainly to inform you of what you have selected. Click on the prompted button to continue to the custom Laser Engraving application.
Here we are, the personalization page! At this step, you will personalize your very own engraved picture frame. The choices are limitless–not only can you select any of our engraveable frames, but you can select whether you would like to engrave DIRECTLY onto the frame OR use one of our four plate options. These options include Rounded and squared shapes in both gold and silver. We also have a wide selection of fonts to choose from, as well as the ability to upload your own logo or image!
Speaking of uploading your logo, your results will be at their premium if you upload a high-quality image. The image will upload to the page small, and if you have uploaded a color image, please not that it will be adjusted to monochrome. Therefore, for best results, we advise that you upload a high-quality, black and white version of your logo. Also, please take note that there is acharacter limit for this app, but you can contact customer service for ANY special requests and we would be happy to find a solution and create a detailed mockup for you.
After you have customized your frames and are satisfied with the result, your next step will direct you to this page. You will be able to view all of the information that you entered into the previous page. Be sure to proofread your information, then confirm your information by clicking the checkbox. To check out, click the “Add to Cart” button and continue.
That’s all there is to it! If you have any questions about laser engraving, feel free to contact us!

We are often asked what our most popular frame sizes are. It is first important for us to clarify how our sizes work in general. Here is the list of all of the sizes that we consider to be standard frame sizes:
In our experience, these are the most popular and most utilized sizes overall. These sizes cover a wide range of photograph sizes, poster sizes, art print sizes, and many other common sizes we see every day. Our most popular sizes are:
5x7’s are a very popular frame size because so many photographs are printed off in the 5×7 size. 5x7’s are the perfect size to display your photos on a desktop at work, home, or to give a precious memory to someone close to you.
Our 8×10 picture frames are top sellers at Frame USA. Once again, 8×10 is a common picture size, but it is also a perfect frame because it includes a mat. Our 8×10 frames come with an off white mat for a 5×7 image, allowing you to mat your 5×7 picture to help highlight your memories.
11×14 frames also include an off white mat but for an 8×10 image. Many of our customers love this size because they can use the frame with the mat, or remove the mat and highlight their 11×14 photographs. Our picture frames all offer this versatility, making Frame USA’s picture frames perfect for any occasion or event.
If you are looking for a medium sized picture frame, the 16×20 size is a great choice. Our 16×20 picture frames include an off white mat for an 11×14 image. This option provides just over 2” of matting on each side of your image. This is a great size picture frame because you can make it a highlight piece on your wall, or part of a mixture with other frames to form a collage on your wall.
Our largest popular size picture frame is our 24×36 size. 24×36 is the main size that most posters that are sold come in. Therefore if you are looking to frame a poster for a dorm room, your office or house, or to give as a gift, this is the perfect picture frame size for you.
When choosing the best picture frame size for you, always make sure to measure your image first. All of our frame sizes are based on the inside dimensions. Therefore if you have an 8×10 image and do not want to use the mat, you still want to order an 8×10 frame. If you have an 11×14 image and do want to include a mat, it is important to order a larger frame size to accommodate this.
Now the question is what is a custom size frame? A custom size frame here at Frame USA is any size outside of our standard 32 sizes (refer to chart listed above). We can produce almost any size frame your heart can imagine. Our only limitations come into play with the width of the moulding- the thinner the frame, the smaller the maximum size will be.
We hope this article on our most popular frame sizes has provided you with all of the information you may need when ordering our picture frames. If you ever have any other questions, please feel free to contact us at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you!
If you are looking to put your collectables into Shadow Box Frames, then Frame USA is the right choice for you. We offer three different Shadow Box options that are all guaranteed to enhance your prized possessions. All of our shadow box products are made exclusively in the United States in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Elite Shadow Box Series is perfect for keepsakes, medals and smaller items. It specifically works well for tickets, programs and in many cases albums or cds. The Elite line comes in 4 colors: Black, Honey, Cherry and Unfinished. The depth of the moulding opening is 15/16” high, so make sure the item you are framing does not have a lot of depth to it. The elite series comes complete with a hanging packet to make sure the product hangs nicely on the wall. If you have a shadow box project that has an important budget to meet, try our Elite Series for quality and affordability.
The Shadowbox Showcase Series is our favorite choice for Shadow Box Frames and an extremely great value! The frame comes in Black, Honey, Cherry and White and offers a depth 2 1/8.” It is perfect for framing jerseys, uniforms or anything else with depth to it. The most popular size is our 24×36 Shadow Box because it is priced extremely competitively and comes with a black foam core backing. The backing allows you to glue, or stitch your item directly to the foamcore which will save you time and steps in completing your project. The Showcase Series is a very impressive frame. Sizes 11×14 and smaller come with glass and larger sizes come with Acrylic.
Our Boxer Shadowbox Series rounds out our line of American Made Shadow boxes. The finish on the Boxer is premium and highly consistent. It is a “wrapped” finish as opposed to the real wood finishes on the Elite and the Showcase Series. The beauty of the boxer is that it can be built on top of each other to come up with virtually any size depth. The other nice advantage of the Boxer is that you can specify white foamcore or black foamcore as a backing. The black and mahogany finishes in the boxer series will compete against the best shadow boxes you will find anywhere in the United States. Just contact our sales department at [email protected] if you have a special project that needs quoting.
