April Charity of the Month: Visionaries & Voices

April Charity of the Month

It has been an exciting past couple of weeks here in t the Frame USA offices, what with the basketball championship and a March madness type competition amongst the employees. As the excitement of both settles down we are reminded once again of a core value of Frame USA and Posterservice: Giving back.

In 2001, a unique idea was created. This idea was about an organization that would give members of the Cincinnati community with disabilities, an opportunity to make, market and celebrate their artistic talents. In 2003, this was no longer an idea but a full non-profit organization called Visionaries & Voices.

Visionaries & Voices holds a special place in our hearts over at Frame USA. They have been part of our team for 8 years. Using a corner of our warehouse, V&V opened up a satellite studio and started welcoming artists from Butler and Warren County to the new studio space.

The vision of this amazing organization is to:

“create a world in which artists with disabilities not only produce and share works of art, but are also given continuous opportunities to learn, develop professionally, collaborate, exhibit and celebrate with community members”

Visionaries & Voices started with a small group of artists and have now expanded to over 150 artists each week at their two studios. They provide studio space for artists to come and use materials they otherwise may not have access to. They then give those artists an opportunity to showcase that art in variety of exhibitions they host every year. One of their most popular exhibition is Double Vision. This is an art auction that gives V&V artists the opportunity to collaborate on a piece of art, with artists working in the regional arts community that will then be auction at the gala. The 6th annual Double Vision art auction is this Friday, April 10, from 6:30-11.

In celebration of the 8th year as part of our team, we have chosen V&V as our April Charity of the month.

Frame USA will donate $0.75 for every purchase of picture frames made on our website. As well as this donation our customers also have the option of donating one dollar when they check out online.

Your one dollar could be responsible in countless pieces of one of a kind artwork being created, will you help us spread beauty around the world?

If you would like to know more about Visionaries & Voices and the work they do or for tickets for their upcoming annual art auction gala, Double Vision, please visit their website at visionariesandvoices.com.

Frame A-Tee Introduction

Introducing Frame-A-Tee: Frame USA’s T-Shirt Frame Product Line.

The Newest T-Shirt Frame Product Line: Frame-A-Tee

Throughout a persons lifetime it is inevitable that they will have been given and or purchased a large amount of T-shirts.

The T-Shirt hording probably started in high school during pep rally’s and concerts. Continued on after graduation, maybe you went Greek in college and got a new t-shirt every event, or maybe you were an avid sports fan and really represented your college well with spirit wear.

After college and probably even before you may have participated in a charity event/race and received a T-shirt for participating or you wanted to rep your favorite professional sports team with T-shirts. Next thing you know you have an entire dresser filled with just T-shirts. If you’re like me, you probably only wear a quarter of the T-Shirts you have in your possession.

So what do you do with the other T-Shirts!?

If none of your T-shirts have any sentimental value attached you could just donate them to goodwill or a homeless shelter.

If you have a large group of shirts you can’t bare to part with you could take them to a seamstress and have them made into a blanket, so the memories are still there but the shirts aren’t taking up space.

However you are bound to have at least one or two T-shirts that you couldn’t bare to part with or the idea of them being chopped up tears you up inside. Thanks to a Frame USA Employee you now have a way to properly display and protect your beloved shirts: Frame-A-Tee

We took one of our popular wood moldings, In-Depth and turned it into an outlet for clearing out your closet, and decorating your home!

Get To Know Frame USA Employees—Favorite Hobby Friday

Frame USA’s Administrative Assistant on Favorite Hobby Friday

It’s been quite some time since our last Favorite Hobby Friday but we’re back with such a unique hobby that it makes up for missing a couple of Fridays! Today I spoke with our Administrative Assistant Jill Gugel about her favorite hobby, here’s what she had to say:

Jill, what is your favorite hobby?

My favorite hobby is making Electric guitars and Cigar Box Guitars (cbg)

Jill Hobby_3

That is so unique, I’ve never met anyone that had this hobby, how long have you been making the guitars?

A year and a half. The photos are builds that are done from bare wood, mostly mahogany and cherry.

That is fascinating, how did you even start creating the guitars?

I was looking for something new to try, when I found a Stratocaster unfinished electric guitar kit. I was hooked.

  Jill Hobby_6

You must be pretty much a master by now how long has it taken you to get where you are skill wise?

I am just a hobbyist, to become a Luthier, someone who is a true master of this art, it takes years of study, skill and then apprenticeship. I’ve gotten to where I am now by doing a lot of reading, and watching videos. The best part is there really aren’t any rules especially when making a Cigar Box Guitar.

I’m learning so much about this craft, I wasn’t even aware that there was a name for a master of making guitars! So how many hours would you say you spend on this hobby a week?

I try to spend about 5-8 hours a week working on any aspect of a build. This also includes the reading and watching videos.

  Jill Hobby_5

So since you spend that many hours on this hobby, a favorite part of it must have emerged, what is it?

I enjoy making used or old guitars “Beautiful” again. Seeking out Cigar boxes, and then shaping the headstocks to mimic popular guitars on the market, but then I add a twist. Then of course string the guitar.

Jill Hobby_2

You talk about this hobby with such passion I don’t even know if you will be able to answer this question, but what is your least favorite part about making your guitars?

I am not a fan of soldering. That seems like a skill set all by itself. Due to the colder time of a year, I am limited to only staining the guitars, painting has to wait until the warmer months.

What has been one of your most memorable experience with this hobby?

All the mistakes and mishaps, somehow those projects’ turn out the best, it’s like magic!!

  Jill Hobby_4

You must have a routine set by now, what is one thing that you have learned about yourself through this hobby?

To be a bit more patient, and learn to love sawdust

I don’t even know where I would begin, what is a piece of advice you have for someone that may want to start doing this?

Just do it!

Thank you so much Jill for taking the time to enlighten me and all of our readers about your favorite hobby!
