Next week, we’ll be traveling to Las Vegas for the next installment of the West Coast Art and Frame show. We’ll be joined by some of the biggest names in the industry (Larson Juhl, Tru-View, Pictureframes.com, etc.) as well as hundreds of small business owners, custom framers and artists. We’re excited for this opportunity to interact with others in our industry!
The art and framing industry is constantly changing, and it’s a great time to be a part of it all. Be sure to follow us on Twitter for updates and the latest news from the show. Some fast framing facts:
In 2012, out of 2,600 American consumers, half of them made some form of purchase in regards to wall art, decor, or some sort of framing.
The top 3 factors influencing a customer’s purchase of a custome frame job are trust, confidence and choice of materials.
45% of customers who classify as “collectors” have multiple items waiting to be framed.
Custom framing customers once had an older audience – the most recent reports show that 56% of customers are at the age of 44 are younger. Customers also tend to be male – about 59%.
Pictures are more than mere decorations. With pictures, a story can be told that shows events in a new and exciting way. The larger the pictures, the more detail and realistic an art story can be. Art stories are essentially chronological events that are shown through pictures. These can be created by anyone and will be able to be used in homes, offices and virtually any space that needs decorating. With the holiday season right around the corner, the most interesting use of stainless picture frames will be that of the holiday surprise.
Showing the Holiday Surprise
Stainless frames look like real stainless steel frames, but they are made of wood. This is the perfect color for the holiday season and works well with garland, Christmas lights and any other festive decoration a home may have. However, a holiday art story can take center stage in any home. The goal is to show events as they have occurred. Here are just a few of the events that are more commonly seen:
Present Opening: From the pickup of a present to the unwrapping, this is the ideal art story that works especially well with younger kids.
Proposal: From bended knee to the tears streaming down her face, a wedding proposal can always be remembered through an art story.
First Snow: The first hint of snow can lead to a very interesting story. With animals, the first sight of snow is priceless. A story created with these pictures will bring happiness to all that see them.
Obviously, the potential for a holiday surprise story is limitless. Simply start with the most memorable moment for you and let your imagination go wild.
A Happy Couple Starts Somewhere
Wedding photo frames are great for big wedding pictures, but stainless picture frames simply take center stage. There are quite a few ways in which the love of a couple can be presented and each will be completely dependent on your own likes.
Wedding Day: From smashing the cake in the grooms face to the carrying of the bride into the home, wedding day art stories are both beautiful and memorable.
Throughout the Years: From the first anniversary all the way through the couple’s first kiss as a married couple, these stories simply resonate with the majority of people and are a testament to their love.
Placing a final, larger picture at the end of the story will provide prominence and allow all viewers to truly be lost in your story of love.
Moving Into Your First Home
A first home is filled with fun, excitement and a lot of packing. This is the perfect memory to put into a story as it will be the home people remember the most. While the initial hassles may want to be forgotten, the final results will always be treasured. A few ideas to get the ball rolling are:
Packing: From the truck to the unpacking of the final box, a story can be told of where a person has come from and where they have finally ended up.
Empty to Complete: A series of pictures that show the home empty and finally being filled up with all of your possessions is a fun way to add life into a living room or dining room.
Stainless picture frames also do exceptionally well with black and white photography. When adding pictures to a story, remember to keep them in chronological order and use the beauty of the frame to truly outline the moment.
The classic, rustic look is one that is routinely recreated. People love a bit of old added into modern day photography. With the use of crystal clear photographs and a touch of vintage, a home can be seen as classy and sophisticated. It is truly a look that is perfect, but it will require the right photo frames to accompany the pictures that are placed within them.
The Napoleon frame is elegant and comes in three distinct colors: black with gold, antique silver and antique gold. With a plethora of sizes, it is best to choose one that is large and place a family portrait inside of it. This is the ideal centerpiece for a home and will be the envy of every living room. With the addition of a family portrait and the beautiful detail seen with the Napoleon frame, this will provide an extremely classy look that is almost regal.
The Victorian age is one that decorators always flock to. It provides class and elegance like no other time in history. Vintage photos are also very popular and will be the perfect addition for a homeowner that wants to add a touch of old into their décor. With the colors of gold and walnut and gold, vintage black and white photos will be the perfect accent for the Victorian frame. These photographs can be taken with the true vintage attire and will bring a home back in time to an age that is merely unforgettable.
Antique Royal Picture Frames
Antique bronze or silver are ideal for painting prints. These frames work extremely well with landscape or old salon pieces of art that are now captured in print form. While these paintings can be quite expensive, the photo prints will be more than affordable. Homeowners can choose from thousands of different prints and anything will work well. Italian and French prints are extremely popular. Pictures of an old Italian town or a glass of wine from France will ensure every room is classy.
Wooden photo frames are able to bring rooms to life. They provide a mood that no other frame can offer. With the addition of antique colors, these frames can be used to recreate a look that has been seemingly forgotten by many modern designers. This is the perfect addition to the sophisticated individual that wants to add elegance to a room that is simply boring and bland.
Today we are going to spotlight several of our brighter colored wood picture frames. As we head into the holiday season, there are many uses for bright colors that represent celebration! From the oranges and yellows of Autumn to the red and green of Christmas season, we have you covered.
OK, I have to admit, when I go looking for a picture frame I’m usually looking for something that is fairly neutral. For photography I’m a bit partial to simple black frames, but sometimes you just need something with a little more flavor. Today we are going to take a look at some of the more colorful framing options available on our Frame USA website.
Colored Picture Frames
Our Colori Series frames are available blue, green, orange red, and yellow colors. Both are also available in black and white, but for this article we’ll concentrate on the bold , bright colors. These are colorfully wrapped wood frames. The Colori Medium have a thinner 1 1/4″ profile than our Colori Large Series frames, which have a 2″ wide facing profile. Either of these series of picture frames offer an excellent choice for when you require bold colors to set off your wall art.

Kid Stuf Colorful Picture Frames
Now it’s time to take a look at our Kid Stuf colorful picture frames for kids. Now let’s be honest, the bold primary colors of these frames can be used for all kinds of art, photos, and even collages. These frames have a rounded 15/16″ facing profile. Available colors: Yellow, blue, green, red, baby blue, and pink.
If you need wood frames in bold colors any of the above frames make a great choice. Take note of the differences in the profile of the frame and decide what will look best in your setting. We have colored frames with wide, flat profiles; narrow profiles; and rounded profiles.
Artists who think that art frames itself (or customers will) may face some harsh reality.
For many artists, it’s no foreign concept to make that final brushstroke against the canvas and feel an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. All that hard work and your masterpiece is even better than you expected. If you’ve painted or drawn on stretched canvas, your work is ready to sell! If your work is on flat, 2-Dimensional paper, however… you may find yourself wondering how you’ll sell your piece. You could sell your work just as it is, letting your customer worry about presentation. This method, however, runs the risk of not getting the best value for your art, or worse, not selling at all because presentation can be just as costly! For this reason, art frames are a wise investment for any budding or experienced artist.
The most obvious solution for 2-D artists and photographers everywhere is purchasing custom art frames. Framing can be just as daunting a chore as any in the art world, the reasoning behind which is that the LAST thing you want to do is distract the viewer from your artwork. As Jason Horejs said in his recent post from RedDot Blog, “Framing art is time-consuming and expensive, and just when you think you’ve found the right frame, your clients let you know otherwise.” Even more discouraging is putting in the time and effort, only for “…a client [to] see [a] piece of artwork, fall in love with it, and then say, ‘but that frame has got to go.'”
Luckily for most artists, picking out a frame is simply an extension of their artistic eye. Find something that makes your piece “pop” instead of distracting the viewer, and don’t try too hard to match the colors of your art to the color(s) of the frame. Aside from the picking out your frame, the other important factor in selecting a frame is the price. Taking your art to a professional framer can set you back hundreds, even thousands of dollars. However, there are several ways to avoid this cost:
1. Build your own art frames and mats
Using materials such as wood, nails and stain/finish bought from your local hardware store, assemble your own frames! There are plenty of tutorials that can be found online, and we suggest looking around Pinterest to find even more creative solutions to DIY art frames.
2. Create artwork to fit a specific frame size
While limiting in a creative capacity, this process will save you time and money down the road. If you like to create art in series or with a certain color, then ordering in bulk may be your best bet. This will force you to restrict your sizing, but for the most part, this is a great investment either way. Frame USA offers volume orders and discounts for businesses as well – fill out our quote form and see just how much you can save.
3. Order custom-sized, wholesale picture frames from Frame USA
As we referenced in 2, ordering a specific size in wholesale can be a great time and money-saver. We also offer a Build A Frame service that allows you to upload an image or select an image opening, add mats and a frame, backing and glazing. We then assemble your frame and send it to you! Give it a try and you’ll see just how much you can save when compared to your local frame shop.

As many of you know, the Frame USA and Posterservice Inc. retail store has just undergone an extensive renovation. To celebrate the Grand Reopening on November 1st, 2013 Frame USA will be doing a special giveaway event for the first 500 customers to visit the store. Those customers will receive a FREE 36”x24” poster of the Cincinnati Skyline! Local Cincinnati artists like Keith Allen often take beautiful shots of the Cincinnati Skyline and other notable parts of the city. Keith, as a self taught photographer, has kindly provided us with this stunning image (pictured below). We are very excited to be able to share this poster with all of you!
“[Keith Allen] shoots architecture, people, nature, travel, scenic, macro, product, concerts & sports. Keith is still learning new techniques daily, and is working diligently to expand his horizons in the photographic field. ’I attribute most of my learning to RC Conception, Scott Kelby, and a bunch of others at Kelbytraining.com along with many other resources on the internet. I shoot the world as I see it and try to duplicate it in an artistic way that I perceive it in my mind’s eye.’ “

That’s right, Super Framer has finally revealed himself here at Frame USA!

Have you ever found yourself in need of a more ornamental or decorative frame? Perhaps you have a historical document or maybe an old map that just screams for more than just a plain picture frame. Well have no fear, today we are going to be covering some of our more decorative frames and presenting you with some images and ideas.
Now there’s absolutely nothing wrong with simple minimalist wood or metal frames, we love those too, but for those that require just a little more punch we wanted to take a moment to highlight some frames that offer a little more than the typical. These frames call a little more attention to themselves and can captivate the observers gaze before they notice the work inside.
One of the most common types of decorative picture frames found today would be metallic wood frames. Metallic picture frames have a very long tradition in framing. Some of the earliest frames known to exist are wood frames covered in gold leaf. Today, most ready made frames use other processes to achieve the same vibrant look. Metallic frames can range from plain to elaborate, but their shimmer will command attention in any setting.
Napoleon Series Frames
Our Napoleon Series Picture Frames offer a highly stylized and fairly ornate moulding, and the frames are available in 3 different colors: antique gold, antique silver, and black with gold.

Our Modena Series picture frames offer bold metallic styling with a substantial curved moulding. The Modena Series is available in bronze, gold, and silver. All 3 colors have an aged look to the metallic finishes.
Victorian Series Frames
The Victorian Series picture frames are a wide and ornate wood frame that offers antique style and a look that is bold and beautiful. These frames are available in you chose of Gold or Walnut with Gold Trim.
Antique Royal Series Frames
Our Antique Royal Series picture frames offer bold texturing with antique metallic colors. This frame style uses a thick 2″ moulding. This frame is suited to vintage pictures and old documents. This frame series is available in 2 colors: bronze and silver.
We hope you enjoyed a brief look at some of our more decorative picture frames. Take a look around the site and familiarize yourself with the different styles before deciding on your next frame. If you have any questions about anything, don’t hesitate to give us a call at 800.577.5920.
We’ve talked about real wood picture frames vs. our eco-friendly composite frames on our blog before. The information holds true–if you’re looking for your frames to look more rustic or have a real wood grain, then you’ll want to by a real wood frame. If you’re looking for something that is smooth, sleek and all of the frames need to look identical, go with our eco-friendly wrapped frames.
Frame USA CEO Dan Regenold took some time to discuss the difference between the two as it applies to wholesale buyers. Have a look and see what’s best for you!

September has finally arrived! Cooler weather, changing leaves, diverse landscapes and–of course–fall photography. Needless to say, this is one of our favorite times for being creative, and the changing landscapes will certainly give you something to look forward to as a photographer. Even more important than the photographs themselves is the way in which you will display them. For most of our customers, the preference lies with our Barnwood series.
Even if you don’t feel comfortable calling yourself a photographer, there are plenty of reasons to be excited for fall. The ease of composing a high-qualty photograph increases with the wide varieties of complementary colors that autumn brings about, earth tones to bright greens and subdued chroma.
Visit us on our Facebook page to learn more about our Barnwood series. Just ask our customers how they feel about these frames–and be prepared to see a lot of happy people! Don’t hesitate to fill out our custom quote form either, and we’ll work hard to get you the best picture frame prices on the web!
